Again, start at the middle and staple out towards each edge. Step Four: Now you will wrap the carpet over the nose of the step and staple up underneath it. Start at the middle and work your way out to each edge placing your staples a few inches apart from each other. Step Three: The next step is to staple the rug where the riser and the step meet. Use your tape measure to ensure the rug is centered on the steps! Put the finished edge of the runner up against the floor (or up against the molding if there is any) at the top of the riser. You will want to start at the top, at the top of the last riser. Step Two: After the pads are stapled down, it’s time to start the rug. One staple at each corner and one in the middle along the top and bottom are perfect. ![]() Staple the rug pad in place, or else it will slip around under the rug. ![]() Step One: After your stairs are all prepped, and if you are using a pad, you will want to cut the pad so that it’s just a tiny bit shorter than the width of the rug, and about 2 inches narrower than the depth of the step. You can simply clean them if you like them the way they are, you can paint the risers white, or you can paint everything white! Whatever you do, your stairs will look fantastic!
